I LOVE shoes. I have loved shoes for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until I became an adult that I had the disposable income to explore what that really meant. Growing up as the daughter of a pastor at a small midwestern church, there wasn’t a lot of money for anything that wasn’t a necessity. Expensive, sparkly shoes did not fit the criteria.
I’ll be honest, my favorite shoes these days are my Converse . . . solid, comfortable, and easy to wear. My six-year-old daughter shares my love for them, and especially loves when we wear our matching pairs. But when I need to dress to impress, I pull out the good stuff!
My family recently went to California on vacation, and we spent about forty-eight hours in Beverly Hills. As a rather accomplished East Coast shopper, I have wanted to shop Rodeo Drive for a while, and leaving the Christian Louboutin store with a couple of bags was at the top of my list. We had a wonderful experience there. The staff was phenomenal, and even my daughter was welcomed like a VIP. She was given refreshments, and they brought her jewelry to try on while I shopped.
I tried on so many shoes that day! There was a pair of over the knee hot pink boots, crystal studded black strappy heels, and numerous pairs of stilettos. Then, I saw them. I tried on the sparkliest pair of silver stilettos I have ever seen. They were gorgeous! Feeling like Cinderella only begins to describe it.
I gingerly walked over to my daughter. (Anyone who tells you stilettos are easy or comfortable to walk in are NOT being 100% honest!) She appropriately oohed and aahed over the “Barbie shoes.” I had found my souvenir.
Those shoes now join the favorites in my collection from over the years, and I was thrilled to get to wear them at a theatre gala shortly after we returned home. They definitely epitomize my favorite quote, “She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes.”
